Continuing to support the Covid-19 response and NHS staff during the pandemic

As we enter into the second autumn of the pandemic, we continue to work with our partners to support the Covid-19 response and NHS staff. We’ve been working with the Department of Health and Social Care and NHS England and NHS Improvement to ensure that appropriate indemnity arrangements continue to be in place to support the Covid-19 vaccination programme, the designated settings scheme and the delivery of standard NHS services.

On 10 September, we posted an updated joint letter from NHS England and NHS Improvement, the Department of Health and Social Care, and NHS Resolution, outlining continued indemnity arrangements for the Covid-19 vaccination programme, on our website.

We also updated our webpages containing information on the Coronavirus Temporary Indemnity Scheme (CTIS) and the Designated Settings Indemnity Support (DSIS) arrangements at the start of October. The pages now reflect the extension of the DSIS to run up to 31 March 2022, while being kept under review throughout this period. This extension means that the DSIS will continue to address gaps in insurance for care homes assured by the Care Quality Commission (CQC) as designated settings.

Additionally, the Clinical Negligence Scheme for Coronavirus (CNSC) continues to complement the existing clinical schemes and non-clinical schemes, operated by NHS Resolution on behalf of the Secretary of State for Health and Social Care.
