The following information was requested:

I am writing to the NHS Litigation Authority for further information, based on the Freedom of Information Act, as I am interested in looking at areas of litigation in Foot & Ankle surgery.

I would be grateful if the NHSLA would be able to assist me with the following queries where the information is available or nearest to answering the query:

  1. The total number of claims against the NHS relating to foot and ankle surgery 2007 to 2017 (10 years); broken down year by year.
  2. The number of cases of successful claims against the NHS relating to foot and ankle surgery 2007 to 2017 (10 years); broken down year by year.
  3. The total amount of remuneration (in GBP) per year, for successful claims against the NHS for foot and ankle surgery from 2007 to 2017 (10 years). The highest amount of remuneration (in GBP) for a single case for each year and the lowest amount of remuneration for a single case for each year.
  4. The causes of the claims in foot and ankle surgery including the 10 most frequent causes for litigation in relation to foot and ankle surgery in the period 2007-2017.
