Ingrid Henderson joined the Safety and Learning Team in May 2024 as Associate Safety and Learning Lead for London and the South regions. She was formerly a National Midwifery Clinical Fellow, within the Early Notification team at NHS Resolution. Ingrid is a registered Nurse and Midwife, and continues to work clinically, undertaking shifts, for an NHS Trust.

Within midwifery Ingrid is an infant feeding specialist. She successfully project managed the implementation of the UNICEF Baby Friendly Initiative (BFI) Standards for an acute Trust with a number of free-standing birthing centres and a level two neonatal unit. Ingrid set up and expanded the tongue tie service and worked with local cranial osteopaths to undertake research into possible benefits of cranial osteopathy to support infant feeding with babies diagnosed with tongue tie. She has led a community midwifery team, managing her own case load which included supporting mothers to give birth in stand-alone centres, at home and in obstetric consultant units.

Ingrid has led the patient safety, quality and governance team at an NHS Trust in women’s services. She led on implementation of the maternity improvement scheme (MIS) and the response to the Ockenden review, setting up a perinatal transformation group to oversee quality improvements, monitor compliance and to provide Trust board and integrated care board (ICB) assurance. She also undertook patient safety incident investigations and became one of the specialists in the Trust involved in the implementation of PSIRF.

Ingrid holds a BSc (Hons) in nursing from Kings College London, a diploma in Midwifery and a MSc in Risk Management in Health and Social care. Her dissertation focused on the impact of implementing postnatal clinics had on midwives and mothers. Ingrid is also an accredited international board-certified lactation consultant.

Ingrid is passionate about supporting a learning safety culture and promoting psychological safety within teams. On leading teams Ingrid was accredited within improving culture and won a Trust award for working together.
