Removal of metalwork in paediatric patients (FOI_6868)

Freedom of information request details

FOI request date:

Service: Claims Management

The following information was requested:

We’re doing a project looking at if routine removal of metalwork in paediatric patients is needed.

Would it be possible to pull data on a national level for claims against trusts regarding removal of metalwork? Be that either not removing metalwork and it is causing problems or routinely removing metalwork and the trust being sued due to some perceived complication or problem related to that surgery.

We don’t have a particular timeframe set out in the study yet, but I would guess there won’t be that many claims so maybe we should start with a 10-year period? Say 2010-2020 to hopefully miss any deviation from the norm that may have occurred during covid.
