The following information was requested:
Please provide the total number of clinical negligence claims received by NHS Resolution in each calendar year from 2014 to 2024 inclusive, in which the primary or contributory cause of the alleged harm was identified as a pressure injury (also referred to as pressure ulcers, pressure sores, bed sores or decubitus ulcers).
For each year, I would be grateful if you could supply:
- The number of new claims received concerning pressure injuries.
- The number of claims settled (whether admitted liability, denied liability, or discontinued).
- The total amount paid out in damages and legal costs (where available) for pressure injury-related claims.
- If available, any further breakdown by severity (e.g. Grade 3 or 4 ulcers) or patient demographics (age bands), and setting (e.g. hospital, community, care home) if collected centrally.
If any part of the information is not held or cannot be disclosed, please advise and provide partial data where available.
