The following information was requested:
I am writing under the Freedom of Information Act 2000 to request information on compensation awarded in respect to medical negligence claims.
Please provide the following information for the period from January 1st, 2024, up to and including May 7th, 2025:
- The total number of settled compensation claims in the UK involving missed fractures, broken
down by type, based on your filing conventions (e.g. missed hip fracture, missed knee fracture,
missed wrist fracture, etc. ) - The compensation amounts paid for each missed fracture claim.
- The NHS Trust with the highest number of settled missed fracture claims in the UK.
If possible, a further breakdown by:
- Whether the missed/delayed diagnosis occurred in an Accident and Emergency (A&E) setting.
- NHS Trust or region.

Specifically, I request details of all claims data recorded under the following CNST codes:
Speciality: Emergency Medicine
Injury:
- Fracture
- Poor Outcome – Fractures Etc.
- Limb Deformity
Cause:
- Fail to Follow-Up Arrangements
- Failure to Interpret X-Ray
- Failure to Perform Tests (please specify the test(s) not performed where possible)
- Failure to X-Ray
- Failure/Delay Diagnosis
- Lack of Facilities and Equipment
- Operator Error (please specify which error occurred where possible)
- Wrong Diagnosis
For each relevant claim, please provide:
- Whether the claim was settled
- The amount of compensation awarded (if settled)
- The NHS Trust where the incident occurred
