The following information was requested:
Further to our previous request regarding compensation claims handled by NHS Trusts in the North East and Cumbria, FOI_7022 we would like to
find out more about compensation claims handled by all NHS Trusts on a national basis, but have significantly reduced the information we’re asking for, in the hope it will remain within the
costs and time limits of the Act.
If my questions can be revised in order to better achieve a full disclosure, I would be grateful for any advice you could give in that respect. If it would also help reduce time by adjusting the time
period, please let me know and I can specify.
Please provide answers to the following questions in an Excel workbook:
- How many compensation claims have been settled by the Trust over the past six years (2019-2025) – please breakdown by year.
- For each settled claim, please provide:
Total amount paid in settlement
Number of claims closed with nil damages paid
Number of claims closed with a damages payment and associated costs
Breakdown by incident date (per financial year)
Breakdown by primary cause
Breakdown by primary injury - Over the same period please provide the number of fatalities claims logged for each Trust.
- How much has the Trust spent in legal fees associated with compensation costs over that period. Please break down by year and by legal costs awarded to claimants vs. costs incurred in representing the Trust.
