The following information was requested:
I would like to make a Freedom of Information Act request regarding the number and value of medical negligence claims made against NHS Trusts in the Essex and East Anglia regions.
For the purposes of this request, “Essex and East Anglia” refers to the following NHS trusts (or their predecessors/successors):
- Essex Partnership University NHS Foundation Trust
- Mid and South Essex NHS Foundation Trust
- East Suffolk and North East Essex NHS Foundation Trust
- Norfolk and Suffolk NHS Foundation Trust
- The Princess Alexandra Hospital NHS Trust
- West Suffolk NHS Foundation Trust
I would be grateful if you could provide, for each financial year from 2015/2016 to the most recent available year, the following information relating to medical negligence claims handled by NHS Resolution for NHS trusts and healthcare providers based in Essex and East Anglia:
- Number of new clinical claims received each year.
- Total value of damages paid each year.
- The most common causes or categories of clinical claims (e.g. obstetrics, surgery, emergency medicine) each year.
- A breakdown of the value of different categories of clinical claims (e.g. obstetrics, surgery, emergency medicine) each year.
- A breakdown by NHS trust or healthcare provider, where possible.
