The following information was requested:
I would like to request some information through the Freedom of Information Act.
Please provide data on claims under the speciality of ‘obstetrics’. I would like figures on:
• Total number of clinical negligence claims
• Total number of claims upheld
• Total damages paid
• Total claimant legal costs paid
• Total defence legal costs paid
I would specifically like the above data from 2018-19 to 2024-25, broken down by:
• Cause (as defined in your CNST Codes) and NHS Trust, for each financial year
• Cause, as a summary across all NHS Trusts across England, for each financial year
• Cause, as a summary across all NHS Trusts across England, for the entire period
I also note FOI_7579_Maternity-claims_By-Trust.pdf request from the end of the last year, which asked similar questions about injuries. Please provide any updates on that data if figures have changed.
Please provide any data in spreadsheet (.xlsx) format if possible.
In addition, I would like any internal analyses, reports or summaries since 1 January 2019 examining trends in maternity negligence claims.
