Acute General Medicine
The following information was requested:
Thank you for the information you provided [FOI_5000], it is greatly appreciated and will really assist our clinicians. Could you kindly send me the exact same but for Acute/General Medicine?
[FOI_5000]
It would need to be just ED claims please as that is the audience that we are giving the talk to.
Ideally we want to compare against Trusts who have a similar volume of patients through their ED but I don’t know if you have that sort of data so failing that it would help to have a
comparison against Trust’s in our region (Birmingham, Nottingham, Leicester, Oxford).
Your suggestion of a top 15 number of claims received for Emergency Medicine covering both volume of claims and including damages paid would help the clinicians understand where we find ourselves in comparison.

United Lincolnshire Hospitals NHS Trust
The following information was requested:
Please can you provide the number of court and out-of-court settlements (specifying which is which) issued by United Lincolnshire Hospitals NHS Trust (ULHT) between 2018 to 2020? I initially put this FOI request into ULHT, who informed me this will need sent to you as you hold
the data.
If this can please be broken down by what the settlement was for and how much was paid out by the trust (both to the complainant and in legal fees)?

General Surgery
The following information was requested:
I’m planning on writing an academic paper regarding medicolegal claims in General Surgery over the last 10 years or so, and I understand you are part of the team to contact in order to obtain records for this in England….
I’m attempting to obtain the 2010-2020 (inclusive) data for general surgery medicolegal claims against the NHS in England. Obviously I don’t need specific identifying details; only the basic operation /circumstances, age, claim details, outcome / payout. That sort of data. The aim is to publish a reasonably contemporaneous retrospective review of the common operations and complications or other reasons for medicolegal claims to be brought against the NHS, so that
we may publish in a peer reviewed medical journal and attempt to raise awareness +/- change practice if possible with this knowledge in mind.

Falling from operating table
The following information was requested:
I was wondering how would I go about finding out number of datix incidents raised from patients falling from operating table in the NHS.
I am a doctor and would like to see if I could write a paper on this topic to help create a conversation towards preventing this never event from happening.
[On 18th March 2021]
Yes, I would like to get an overall picture for all of the trust that are members of the claims scheme. I am looking to get either claims relating to patient’s falling from bed or number of incidents that have been recorded via DATIX through Trusts.
My ideas is to find out number of incidents/claims over 5-10 years, type of injury to patient, patient demographics, which specialties involved, claims successful , changes implemented etc.
