The following information was requested:
I am preparing an article on medicolegal claims in Ophthalmology in England from 2018 to 2023. I would like you to provide the following data for this time period: the number of Ophthalmology claims in each year, how many were settled, and the costs associated with this in each year and the most detailed information you have on the cause of the claims i.e. wrong diagnosis, surgical complications, delayed treatment etc.
You previously provided me with this data for the period before 2018 and this is now a follow up article. The purpose of the article is to inform my fellow Ophthalmic Surgeons of the high-risk areas of our speciality in order to try to improve patient care and reduce the number of medicolegal claims against them.

Claims against Physician Associates (FOI_6417)
The following information was requested:
Please state the number of recorded clinical negligence cases involving physician associates (PA) working in general practice for each of the following calendar years:
– 2019 – 2023
This means the number of cases where the incident took place within the relevant calendar year (rather than when the case was notified to NHSR). I understand that incidents taking place in the first quarter of 2019 come under the ELSGP, meaning this 2019 would include data from both schemes.
If information on professional groups is not routinely captured as a category, please conduct a key word search for ‘physician associate’.

My request does not relate to GPs. It relates to claims which involve physician associates (PAs), which is a separate professional group. I do understand however that some claims may involve multiple members of staff – so my request seeks to capture all those involving PAs.
But the request only relates to incidents occurring within general practice (i.e. solely CNSGP or ELSGP).

The following information was requested:
Under the Freedom of Information Act, please could I request the following information:
1. Please advise how many Data Subject Access Requests (hereafter referred to as SARs) you received and responded to in 2021, 2022 and 2023 relating to employees (past or present) and other requests (e.g. customers, general public, service users etc).
2. When responding to SARS do you manage the process in-house, or do you outsource the whole or part of the process? And if conducted in house please specify the name of the team/function that is responsible for this part of the process (eg Data Privacy, HR, etc).
3. Approximately how many working hours does it take to pull together a typical SARs response, this includes the time taken to collate and redact the information, and putting the information together for issuing?
4. What is the estimated percentage of handwritten documentation within a typical SAR response?
