How many claims have been made against NHS Trusts in the past five years for retained objects post-procedure?
By ‘retained foreign object post procedure’, I refer to retained guide wires, mouth props, surgical instruments, needles, vaginal swabs, throat packs, etc.
Please break this down by how many claims:
- Were settled with damages paid.
- Have been rejected or closed.
- Remain open.
Of those which were settled, please confirm the total amount paid in damages, broken down by:
- Financial year (1st April-31st March 2019/20, 2021/22, 2022/23, 2023/24, and 1st April-30th September 2024).
- Speciality
