The following information was requested:
I am writing to request information under the Freedom of Information Act 2000.Please could you provide the following information regarding claims against NHS Trusts for Dermatology.
I note the response to FOI_7798 (19 March 2026), which contains information relevant to this request. We are seeking a more detailed breakdown, particularly regarding the diagnosis involved and the point within the dermatology pathway at which the incident occurred. If possible, we would be grateful to receive the underlying data in its raw format.
1. Dermatology litigation claims
Please provide details of clinical negligence claims relating to dermatology and skin lesions for each financial year from 2018 onwards, including, where available:
• NHS trust or organisation against which the claim was made.
• Financial year of the incident and/or claim.
• Brief description of the incident or claim category.
• Diagnosis or condition involved (where recorded), for example melanoma, squamous cell carcinoma, basal cell carcinoma, benign skin lesion or inflammatory skin disease.
• The stage of the patient pathway to which the claim relates (where recorded), for example referral, Advice and Guidance, triage, outpatient assessment, biopsy, surgery, histopathology, follow-up or discharge.
• Whether the claim related to diagnosis, delayed diagnosis, misdiagnosis, treatment, follow-up, surgery, pathology, communication or another category (where recorded).
• Current status of the claim (open or closed).
• Outcome of the claim.
• Damages paid.
• Defence costs.
• Claimant costs.
• Total cost of the claim.
2. Independent sector providers
Where held, please provide the same information for independent sector providers covered by NHS Resolution schemes.
