Anaesthesia, Intensive care medicine, Neurosurgery, Radiology (FOI_6915)

Service: Claims Management Speciality: Anaesthesia, Intensive Care Medicine, Neurosurgery, Radiology

The following information was requested:

I would like all the information you hold in its most granular form going back 10 years. I am particularly interested in claims related to anaesthesia, pain medicine/management, interventional radiology, intensive care (adult and paediatric).

For each of these areas it is important that all the information you hold is provided and not filtered.

I want to see dates of incidents, narratives of claims where available, details of the operations or procedures involved, any available details you can share about the patients affected, and most importantly the amounts paid in settlement.

(Please, see attached PDF for clarifications.)

Individual Trusts Claim Payments (FOI_6810)

The following information was requested:

Please could you share with me the following information for the Trust:

• How many negligence claims have been made against the Trust by patients or their families in the last five years.
• How much has the Trust paid out to patients or their families, as a result of these claims over the same time period?
• What have the legal fees cost the Trust over that period?
• And how much has the Trust had to pay for claimants’ legal costs?

If it’s possible to break down these figures and costs for each financial year over the last five years that would be great: 2019/2020 to 2023/2024.

  • County Durham & Darlington
  • North Tees & Hartlepool
  • South Tees
  • Gateshead
  • South Tyneside & Sunderland

  • Harrogate and district
  • York & Scarborough

  • Cumbria, Northumberland, Tyne & Wear

(Clarification made on 15 October 2024)

I do have another question…
Obviously all the trusts have insurance cover for negligence claims – what is the difference between the RPST and CNST? Essentially I’m trying to work out how much the trusts have had to pay each year to cover their negligence claims insurance, and how much they’ve had to pay outside of that cover. Can you point me to the correct columns in the spreadsheet please?
