Like many other NHS organisations, NHS Resolution is adopting the UK Government’s working definition of anti-Muslim hostility.
Anti-Muslim hostility is defined by the Government as including acts such as violence, harassment and discrimination directed at Muslims or those perceived to be Muslim, as well as prejudicial stereotyping and behaviours intended to disadvantage individuals or groups because of their religion.
We agree with the UK Government that clearly defining anti-Muslim hostility across the health and care system is a vital part of tackling it and building the confidence of our colleagues and the public. Clear definitions such as this help to provide consistency and support colleagues and organisations to recognise, challenge and respond to discrimination more effectively.
The Government has been clear that the definition is non-statutory and does not override existing laws, including those relating to freedom of expression.
All our staff should feel welcome and safe at work, and all our service users should receive fair, equitable and respectful treatment.
You can read more about the definition and its intended application on GOV.UK: A definition of anti-Muslim hostility.
